Reinforced fills are more and more used as alternative to typical retaining solutions. In the present article, the authors first present the last trends related to the development of this technique in Belgium considering various field cases. Then, the core of the paper focuses on a particular case study: the design, the construction and the monitoring, with optical fibers, of reinforced fills realized within the framework of the 'by-pass - Mechelen' project.
